When you head downstairs you get the feeling you've traveled back in time! Seriously, there is a floating band in the middle that used to be the hotel swimming pool. We got the big punch bowl that I think was called the volcano. October 25th, 2016 “On the left is Mom in 1980. On the right is her daughter in 2014.” (via source). We stopped for the night in Grand Junction to restock supplies in a “big city” then headed to Montrose to try out a new Jeep trail. But first–a stop at the Montrose Riverside Park. The Night of the Iguana and Puerto Vallarta. John Huston, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor had their, work, lives and their love inextricably bound with Puerto Vallarta and the Banderas Bay. Undoubtedly the city and its. Good thing we can just walk home! The Tonga Room is a tiny slice of island paradise in the middle of the city, and considered a San Francisco landmark by many. It's a perfect venue for a cheesy date, novel night out, or- let's be real- finding an excuse to get sloshed on Hurricanes. This band, unlike many others, performs on a floating stage surrounded by waterfalls! I mean, how many bars can you say you've been to that provide that? When my friend and I showed up for dinner, we were able to get a drink pretty quickly and stood by the pool in the middle. People did mention there was some water show, but we didn't experience it (I kind of wish I did). I really enjoyed my Singapore Sling. Fruity and not super alcoholic. My friend's hurricane was about too much for me, but it was still good. It is like the tiki bar, it's a bar which at times requires reservations, and they have special drinks in which they entertain the guests with hurricane effects and squirts water at you! It's below the hotel and you can walk down the stairs when entering the Laurel Court Restaurant! There is a fee to get in for the band probably. They perform on water or they get wet, it's all odd! Oh my god ! I've died and have gone to heaven, this place is magical, there is a swimming pool where the stage should be, when the band comes out they are on a boat you hear thunder and lightning and it begins to rain as if your in a tropical rain forest, but you don't get rained on its just over the pool.. Our food was delicious we had a myriad of Polynesian delights, absolutely Devine, the waiters where great, courteous and prompt with our orders, it was quiet the experience. The band was outstanding playing 8. Whoa mama, we're deep in kitsch flavor country now! This is your faux dream tropical vacation, complete with pricy luau foods and hilariously big communal drinks. Get the Royal Pupu platter because everything on it is phenomenal! The ribs and wings are tender and covered in wondersauce with sesame seeds.
The crab rangoons have tasty actual dungeoness crab in them, but oh man, those shiitake spring rolls are UNREAL. Crisp, savory, succulent, they don't need sauce but you'll get territorial over these dainty nibbles and want to experiment. Give in, it's worth it. Tonga! Get ready for fun fruity drinks, lots of music & dancing and memories to last a lifetime! It may not be the most practical option for a drink but who doesn't want to drink their drink out of a huge bowl?!? Enjoy the tropical decor & try to get a table with a view. At first, it was hard to find this place. We just went into our best- guessed entrance and luckily found it! I don't remember because we got really drunk off of that.. Other than that, we had a great time! One girl had gone earlier and saved us a table, but it didn't seem to be super crowded, probably because the first Warriors vs Cavaliers game was going on at the same time! I got the Island Margarita for $1. They've gone to great lengths to create that tropical island atmosphere, complete with a pool of water in the middle, periodic ! They looked like they were having a blast! It is quite Disneyesque and for good reason. The bombing of Dresden was a British/American aerial bombing attack on the city of Dresden, the capital of the German state of Saxony, that took place during the Second World War in the European Theatre. In four raids between. It was designed by Mel Melvin, a 1. MGM studios. But it definitely staged. They were decent for bar food. The vegetable dumplings were actually quite nice. The spicy poke wasn't too spicy. My other half wasn't crazy about the pork sliders, they were a bit tough. We got Sichuan green beans. They weren't too spicy. A scallion pancake, it was quite dry. And the Hawai'ian fried rice. It was a tad salty, but flavorful. She brought me an absolute panty dropper. I couldn't finish it, and I'm a pro drinker. The service is top notch! Go here for the experience. Go here for the live music on a floating island band in the middle of the venue. Go here for the Hawaiian experience. Sit back , order a pu pu platter, order a gigantic fish bowl and you're set. The price tag comes with the territory. The territory well justified it. Total tourist attraction. If you really want to check this place out for the ambiance, come here just to check it out - - don't order anything and don't get a table. Just enjoy the atmosphere and leave. Here's why. THERE ARE TOO MANY RULES. Honestly, I hope the manager gets fired and someone with actual sense about customer experience re- vamps this place. Some of the rules we encountered last night. No sitting in the bar/standing area. My friend was feeling a little dizzy and grabbed a chair to sit down. Multiple waiters came and hassled her to stand up. She was not blocking anybody and just needed to sit for a few minutes since there was a long wait for a table. Nope, she had to stand. If you want to wait for a table, you can't put your name down. You have to stand in line the entire time to be seated. If you ordered a drink at the bar, you can't wait for a table because they . No ordering food at the standing/bar area. You can't sit at the small tables at the standing area, the hostess needs to seat you because apparently they're ALL RESERVED. You need to pay right away. Otherwise they will take away your drinks and treat you like a bad child if you don't. It's appalling to see how they don't care about customer satisfaction at all. What's the point of having a business if you just want to make up 5. North Korea? You can buddy up with other dictators to make other people miserable. Not to mention that punch bowls with minimal alcohol cost close to $4. SO STICKY. My friend, who was the birthday girl, could barely walk around cause her shoe was stuck to the floor and her foot kept slipping out!! I wanted to get the names of the servers and write a complaint to fairmont but since it was my friend's birthday and our buzz was already dissipated, I didn't want to add to the fire. If you think a bad experience is worth seeing . Otherwise, there are plenty of better options with better price points and better customer service in SF. The drinks there were awesome, loved the lynchee martini. The food was not authentic and was just mediocre coupled with the high $$$$, made it hard to give it a 4 star. They charge a $1. Our party of 9 decided to do pre fixe menu and the food was nothing short of crap which was bland, and over cooked. THAT IS SO COOL IT ALMOST MAKES IT 5 STARS ALONE.. It's in the Fairmont, which is beautiful, and I have never had a bad time here. Bring a group, grab an over- priced, poorly mixed Scorpion and dance to the band. Even the drinks at Trad'r Sams is better. Nothing can be written about this place that hasn't already been written. It's tacky, it's tiki, it's silly, it's wonderful, it's a freaking must for tourists. It always seems to be packed, and who among us wouldn't want to dance on the deck of a pirate ship? Yes, there is a slew of your favorite fruity rum tiki drinks in theme glassware. The live band plays lots of your favorite silly songs from the deck of their floating barge, covering the . If it doesn't make you smile out of fun, campiness, horror or embarrassment, you're dead. That is a long overdue blessing. It might have something to do with customer service or a new GM. Or it could have something to do with the influence of nearby Smuggler's Cove (which has perhaps the best tiki drinks- -no, make that the best drinks of any kind- -on the west coast). I give Tonga Room 4 stars. More like 1. 0! Loved it, loved it and loved it! Casual and loud - so me! You can walk in; although there is usually a 1/2hr wait. This is my second time visiting the Tonga Lounge. It is located at the Fairmont Hotel on the bottom . I only came for the drinks and upon walking in I felt like I left the city of San Francisco. They did a really great job with the decor, lighting, and making you feel like you're on a tropical vacation. They offer numerous drinks to share for 2- 4 people served in tropical- like cups/bowls such as coconuts or pineapples. We ordered the scorpion bowl for two, but since I'm not really into fruity tropical drinks, it is difficult for me to say whether or not I enjoyed the drink. For those that do enjoy fruity drinks you might enjoy the Tonga lounge for they offer a variety of tropical drinks. They were very sweet and not too strong. If you're with a group of friends or on a date I'd recommend this place for its ambiance. Anthony Bourdain approved, so we had to check it out! A live band was playing amongst an indoor tropical storm while we sipped mai tais and ate delicious Asian/Hawaiian inspired food. We asked for the drink that came in a skull, like the one we saw on The Layover and our waitress laughed and said that everyone asks for that, yet they don't serve that type of drink! No problem, we enjoyed the Lava Bowl and other delicious concoctions. While the celebrated Mai Tai was slightly better than satisfactory, the appetizers were truly awful and tasted like Lean Cuisine frozen leftovers reheated for the second or third time. At least the music was lively and pleasant. Seriously such a cool spot. Highly recommend this place for a fun night out! We came here on the Sunday night before MLK day and it was bumpin'. We wanted to get a table but we also wanted to be in the fun part of the bar so we decided to just walk in and wait for a spot at the bar, which we luckily found after about 5 minutes of hovering. The band sits in a little hut in the middle of the pool (that's right, there's a pool in this place!). Extremely Instagram worthy I would say. They helped us when we had no idea what to order. I ordered the cheaper version of the drink, which comes in a ceramic pineapple vs. Perfect mix of pineapple, rum, and brandy.
